An antecedent is the 'thing' that evokes behavior. See Steering on consequences at https://usm-portal.com/organizational-change-management-techniques/?lang=en.
I've lost track of the original translation question: where would the answer to this question have any consequences? In the Glossary or in the German edition of the book?
Onderwerp: translation of "antecedent": "Hinweis auf Konsequenz" Jan, in this context: Would "Hinweis auf Konsequenz" be an appropriate german translation? Antecedent (less powerful, "Hinweis"): Sign "80 km/h" Hinweis auf Konsequenz (more powerful): "Permanent speed control by radar next 2 km. Offences will be fined."

That's not what OBM says. It is something that evokes behavior. This means that behavior is triggered by the content of the antecedent. If you see a traffic sign that says (80 max), then you may lower your speed because you see it. The same may happen if you see a sign that says "punishment if you drive too fast". OBM says these antecedents are less powerfull than naming the consequences of speeding, e.g. showing a wreck and a dead child.
Op 21 aug. 2024 om 16:19 heeft Klaus Doerner [email protected] het volgende geschreven: Jan, regarding "antecedent" the book mentions "According to Organizational Behavior Management (OBM), one of the conclusions about influencing behavior (STEP 1C) is that people can be influenced more effectively by naming the consequences of their behavior than by naming the antecedents of the behavior." The glossary definition is Definition: Something that evokes behavior. Explanation: For example, a traffic sign, a work instruction, a prescription, exemplary behavior of colleagues. Deepl translates: Vorläufer, Vorgänger, vorhergehende To me an antecedent in this context is rather a hint or notice (german: Hinweis). "Hinweis" (or "Vorschrift") would fit for traffic sign, work instruction, prescription. "examplary behavior" to me is rather a "Vorbild" (role model, exemplar), NOT a Hinweis or Vorschrift. So my suggestion for antecedent is: Defionition: Something that prescribes behavior Explanation: For example, a traffic sign, a work instruction, a prescription What do you think? K.
